HKFYG survey on effects of cross-border commuting as numbers grow
The number of Hong Kong children living in Shenzhen but commuting to school here has grown four-fold to 16,000 in the last decade. It is expected to increase further. A recent Federation survey also found that 85% of those who commute wanted to continue at school in HK. Findings of the same survey, released last week, also showed that 68% spent two hours or more travelling daily and nearly 34% found this tiring. Over 40% did no academic extra-curricular activities in Hong Kong because they rushed home to Shenzhen. Over 22% said they would like dormitory facilities in Hong Kong.
