For the past eight years, Youth Business Hong Kong (YBHK), our flagship youth entrepreneurship support scheme has been helping young people set up their own businesses. Over the years, we have received over 1000 applications and have provided over 120 aspiring businesses with not only mentorship, but loans totaling more than HKD 7 million.
These businesses, which have involved 200 young people, have proved to be a great success. Many of the YBHK entrepreneurs have been recognised with local and international youth business awards, reinforcing the innovative and dynamic spirit of Hong Kong's young people.
We are proud to celebrate our 8th anniversary and as we thank all our partners and friends, we are also very proud to help young people help themselves.

English Public Speaking Week begins on 8 July with The Hon Regina Ip as Guest of Honour at Kick-off Ceremony
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of The HKFYG Standard Chartered Hong Kong English Public Speaking Contest, HKFYG is organizing a series of events at the HKFYG HQ in North Point. From 8-12 July 2013, the Hong Kong English Public Speaking Week 2013 will involve a variety of fun, interactive events for secondary students beginning with the Kick-off Ceremony cum Master Workshop of the Week. The Hon Mrs Regina Ip will give tips on learning English and local and national winners will demonstrate public speaking skills. A new book, 8 Steps to Become a Champion in English Public Speaking will be launched. Don't miss the movies in 2013 China Week from now till 9 July
The series begins today with Back to 1942 (一九四二) and continues tomorrow at HKFYG HQ with A Battle of Wits (墨攻). The Grandmaster (一代宗師) and The Piano Factory (鋼的琴) follow at M21, the HKFYG Jockey Club multimedia centre in Shek Pai Wan, on 8 and 5 July respectively. My Way (乾旦路) is the last of the series, on 9 July in the HKFYG HQ in North Point. All screenings start at 2.30pm and each film is followed by a seminar, giving the young audience a chance to exchange views with an eminent speaker. Come and Meet the Boss at Olympian City 2: YBHK's 8th anniversary
The Federation's youth entrepreneurship support scheme, Youth Business Hong Kong (YBHK), has its 8th anniversary this month! In celebration, we would like to invite you to the Meet the Boss Youth Entrepreneurship Show from 12 noon-7pm in Olympian City 2. SpotSound Music Camp CUHK 100 on 13-14 July
From 2pm on 13 July till 1pm on 14 July at the SpotSound Music Camp guest, Joey Au (區新明), will be jamming and sharing his ideas on music with a hundred 14-24 year-olds at the Adam Schall Residence, United College, Chinese University of Hong Kong. Joey Au, well known since the 1980s as a mainstay of the Hong Kong music industry and founder of pop bands, 小島樂隊 and 凡風樂隊, now works as a singer-songwriter and web jockey. Series of Youthlaw online radio programmes about drugs
from the Youth Crime Prevention Centre
On June 26, to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, HKFYG's Youth Crime Prevention Centre broadcast the sixth in a series of online radio programmes about youth taking drugs. Invited guests talked about legislation and community support, drug counselling treatment, life as a member of a family with a young addict, and how parents and teachers can help. Speakers included Dr Paul Yeung Hoi-shan, Chairman, Kwai Ching District Fight Crime Committee, Mr Stanislaus Lai Ding-kee, City University of Hong Kong, and office bearers and members of the Tsuen Wan District Parent Teacher Association. Dr the Hon Ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health, to open Summer School for Effective Leadership at the University of Hong Kong
The Summer School for Effective Leadership, a collaboration between HKFYG and the University of Hong Kong General Education Unit, is being run for the 6th consecutive year in 2013. It opens on 18 June with The Hon Dr Ko Wing-man, BBS, JP, Secretary for Food and Health, as Guest of Honour. The School continues till Saturday 27 July and is ideal for students in S4-S6. LEAD invited by MIT Media Lab to contribute to Scratch 2.0
translation into Chinese
LEAD, the Federation's educational programme for Learning through Engineering, Art and Design, has the honour of an invitation from MIT Media Lab to be the Chinese (Traditional) language administrator for newly released Scratch 2.0 software. Scratch is an educational programming language and multimedia authoring tool designed for ages 8 up. It enhances students' motivation to learn and their self-expression. Since 2005, LEAD has been in close collaboration with MIT Media Lab in the promotion of Scratch and has conducted hundreds of workshops for thousands of students and teachers, facilitating the integration of Scratch software into the school curriculum. Hang Seng Bank Leaders to Leaders lecture with York Chow speaking about equal opportunities
On 10 July at 6pm in the Rayson Huang Theatre at the University of Hong Kong, Dr York Chow will speak about equal opportunities in this sixth lecture in the Hang Seng Bank Leaders to Leaders Lecture series. The stress of Hong Kong's fast-paced, crowded, city life can affect harmony at home, especially when adolescents are seeking respect and independence.
