| Online gaming: a real concern |

A recent survey* shows that the average time spent online by 15-24 year olds in Hong Kong is nearly 3 hours a day. Over 40% of that time is spent playing online games. The Federation, highly aware of the concerns this raises, welcomes young people and parents to seek advice and guidance at its Youth Wellness Centre.
The Youth Wellness Centre (YWC) organizes activities about compulsive internet use for teachers, social workers, counsellors and parents. On Friday 7 June such a seminar takes place, followed by a workshop on Wise Net, a board game for youth on the theme of sensible use of the internet. YWC developed the game and details are below. At a time when expert opinion on Internet Gaming Disorder has just been published**, the event and the game will be of interest to all involved in the intricate world of youth.

Youth Wellness Centre seminar on internet use for the i-Generation plus workshop on Wise Net board game
On Friday 7 Jun 2013, from 2.15pm-5.15pm at Tsuen Wan Town Hall Exhibition Gallery, guest speaker Professor Victor Wong of the Department of Social Work, Hong Kong Baptist University, will speak about the Social Construction of Identity in Internet Addicted Youth. The seminar, organized by the Federation's Youth Wellness Centre (YWC), is followed by a Wise Net board game workshop. The game, devised by YWC, teaches students aged 10 + how to use the internet prudently. Players' scores reflect imbalance in time allocation for study, online games and social activities. 500 free sets of the board game will be distributed to training workshop attendees. Visit YBHK young business showcases and get business tips on Entrepreneur Day
Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the annual Entrepreneur Day at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, is expected to attract over 13,000 visitors eager to collect valuable start-up information. Commissioning Ceremony for Global Citizens Programme 2013 funded by
Victor & William Fung Foundation
For the third year in succession, the Global Citizens Programme is being sponsored by The Victor & William Fung Foundation. The Commissioning Ceremony will be on 3 June 4pm on 25/F of the HKFYG Building. This year marks the first collaboration with The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) and the theme is Social Media in Action. Customized for 30 selected participants, the programme includes lectures and workshops on the Stanford University campus and visits to Silicon Valley from 9-18 June. Hong Kong Electric Smart Power Campaign funds Micro Movie Competition on Low Carbon Lifestyle
Funded by Hong Kong Electric Smart Power Campaign, the Be Green Be Happy competition aims to promote low carbon lifestyle among young people. Running till December this year at the HKFYG Jockey Club M21 Media Centre, it targets Smart Power Campaign Membership Schools. A workshop and a series of training classes on environmental protection and techniques of micro movie production are being provided at M21 for students and teachers. Producers of micro movies less than 5 minutes long are eligible to enter their work for prizes for Best Script, Best Creativity, Best Production, Best Actors and Actress and Best Micro Movie. U-in-100 social discovery project at Discovery Park Tsuen Wan on 18 May 2013
Over 100 youth from 8 Youth HKFYG S.P.O.Ts formed social study groups this year. At a finale progamme last Saturday, they shared observations and recommendations through multimedia productions and experiential learning booths. 3 short films were also presented. Federation teams make their mark at FLL World Festival in the US and the FLL Open European Championship in Germany
HKFYG FLL teams have won several awards at the FLL World Festival in USA, and at the FLL Open European Championship held in Germany this year. Carmel Secondary School won the Robot Design - Strategy and Innovation Award, and the Hong Kong & Macau Lutheran Church Primary School got the Support and Learning Award in the Junior FLL Section. At the FLL Open European Championship, Diocesan Boys' School (Primary Division) received the Core Value - Gracious Professionalism award. Congratulations to them all! |

In the newest Youth SPOT magazine, young people talk about media production in M21, HKFYG's integrated multimedia centre for youth that supports creative production, media education and media counselling. Already adept in communication and creation with technology, youth also need a platform to harness and nurture their aspirations.
