Organic 21 a new HKFYG café and shop run by young people in Staunton Street:
Open now. Eat in or take away!
A new HKFYG youth social enterprise, the Organic 21 café and shop at 60 & 62B, Staunton Street, Central, is now open, Monday - Friday: 12 noon- 9pm (closed Wednesday) , Saturday and Sunday 9am- 9pm. With seating for twenty and a full a la carte and takeaway menu, this bijou meeting place has something for everyone who likes healthy, organic, natural foods. Try the specialties created by star Chef Vince at this youth social enterprise, staffed by youth committed to serving high quality food with a personal flourish. Over 85% of the produce is from the US, certified USDA organic. Special, signature items also include the coconut series made from wholesome, high quality, Philippines products. Gluten free snacks and a baby series are also available. Manna, an organic produce company is our partner. From Theory to Practice‧Develop Science Potential: Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2013 Initial Judging this week
Jointly organized by HKFYG, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, the competition has 244 teams from 97 secondary schools this year. A new Open Division for students aged 18-25 has ten enrolled teams. The Initial Judging is on 11 May 2013 at Hong Kong Science Park and the Final Judging will be on 1 June when a science drawing contest will also be held. All teams and visitors are welcome to enter. A workshop will also be held for teacher guides on how to lead students in research projects.

Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum 2013 call for nominations
The Dragon Foundation's Dragon 100 2013 takes place from 9-17 August in Hong Kong and Taiwan, focusing on the theme of Chinese Culture: Continuity and Innovation. Delegates will participate in plenary sessions with guest speakers, join focus group discussions on the development of Chinese culture, and visit museums and sites of creative or cultural projects, such as the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of History, the National Palace Museum and the City Hakka Cultural Park in Taipei. Nominations for Chinese participants aged 18-35 with outstanding potential, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to serve the community are invited. M21 film fest brings acclaimed directors and promising film-makers together for showings of first movies made
The M21 Youth Short Film Festival from 27 April to 5 May 2013 celebrated the launch of M21 with movies by promising young film makers and presentations by well known directors. They included Mathew Tang, who won this year's Best Film in the Hong Kong Film Awards for Cold War; Heiward Mak who won The 30th Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Screenplay with Love In A Puff; and Cheung King-wai who won the Golden Horse Award for best documentary film director in 2009 with KJ; and upcoming director Tsang Kwok-cheung, whose first film, Lover's Discourse, came out in 2010. Federation celebrates Global Youth Service Day annual volunteering campaign
The Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) campaign at HKFYG was on 26-28 April this year. Mobilizing youth to do voluntary work, the Youth Volunteer Network (YVN) launched "I am a Volunteer @ M21" which encouraged participants to GO GREEN. Voluntary environmental protection work was supported by uploading themed photos on YVN's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/VNET.HKFYG. There was also a 'Volunteer Experience Day' on 27 April at Youth Square, when over 400 young people made the most of a chance for creative recycling. Integrity: a Micro Movie Production Scheme with the ICAC
The submission deadline for this scheme, first announced in Youth Matters in mid-April, has been put back to 20th May 2013. The Independent Commission Against Corruption is funding the scheme which runs from March-December 2013 at the HKFYG M21 Media Centre. Top shortlisted entries will receive sponsorship of up to HK$20,000 each for micro movie production. The selection criteria include quality of scripts and proposal, impact of the message on integrity, level of creativity and production experience. Online at www.m21.hk/integrity/. M21 supported by Community Involvement Broadcasting Service of RTHK's Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) channel with new pilot projects
DSE Diary [DSE日誌] and After Setback [挫折之後], two HKFYG M21 multimedia programmes, have pilot project funding from Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) for the new Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) channel. From July 2013-January 2014, the projects will help educate young people through radio drama series. DSE Diary encourages DSE students faced with the challenge of examinations, while After Setback focuses on stories of young people with difficulties in personal or family life. Advice on study and career paths will also be offered in the series which have the dual aims of training young radio producers through hands on production. Open to 15-30-year-olds. Charity Auction with Lisa's Collection plus course on Chinese antiques and works of art in May and June
HKFYG's Charity Auction with Lisa's Collection begins with a preview on Saturday 8 June, 10am-8pm and is followed by the auction at 10am Sunday 9 June. Auction premiums received will support services for young people in need. The event is complemented by a course from 11 May-1 June at HKFYG's Centre for Continuous Learning, on appreciating Chinese antiques and works of art, run by Mrs Lisa Cheung Chung Lai-seung. Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education funds theatre project for internet users with HKFYG's Youth Wellness Centre
The Federation's Youth Wellness Centre (YWC), a 3-year collaborative effort with the Hospital Authority New Territories West and the Fu Tak Iam Foundation, has been granted nearly HK$180,000 by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education to launch a theatre project entitled Smart Netizen, Theatre Education for Youth [ 網絡達人」－網絡青年論壇劇場]. It runs from May 2013-April 2014. YWC will recruit young people and students who are active internet users and train them to portray the joy, excitement and pain they find in the cyber world. They will then share what they know on stage with schools and the community. The project aims to enhance a sense of responsibility and equality while encouraging positive energy in the community and the internet world. Call Siu-man, tel 2465 2828 for more details.
2012 Caring Companies: community involvement in the spotlight
Corporate social responsibility, involvement and community partnership are at the core of the Caring Company Awards. We are therefore very glad to report that the Federation has successfully nominated 23 companies and organizations for the 2012 Scheme. All of them will be invited to an exhibition and Award Recognition Ceremony at the Hotel Nikko Grand Ballroom in TST on 21 May 2013, 4.30-5.30. Well done Takon: YBHK supported business wins award
in Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition
YBHK entrepreneur Joe Wong from Takon Product Development Ltd was declared Champion of the 6th Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition (Open Group) with his design Ordinary - everyday lighting with a silver lining. Furthermore, Joe and his partner Jerry Lee designed Wine Note, a gift item which received a Merit award in the Smart Gift Design Awards 2013: Consumer Gifts: for Play Category. Well done to Takon for its fabulous products.
