Top of the Agenda: Policy Address online @M21
Engaging young people's interest in the policy-making process is top of the Federation's agenda this month. We hope to see them involved, in action and moving in step. This involves understanding the perspective and constraints faced by Hong Kong's government, then expressing their own opinions about today's blue-print for public policy which will affect their lives fundamentally in the coming years.
As film-makers, online discussants and forum participants, thousands of young people will participate. A documentary film-crew will follow the Chief Executive's maiden Policy Address, videoing a Legco session and related activities, as well as interviewing government officials, Councillors and the general public. Face-to-face round-table and dialogue sessions will be arranged and recorded, or will go out live to maximize the opportunity to share views. Mrs Carrie Lam, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, and Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education, are amongst those taking part. |

HKFYG's M21 Multimedia Centre is organizing this series of highly-focused activities. The emphasis is on awareness of current affairs, interaction with policy-makers, and giving young people a voice to speak out on central issues such as poverty, housing, education, employment and the environment. Youth engagement is the key.

Neighbourhood First reunion dinner on 2 Feb 2013 in all 18 districts with Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary, as Guest of Honour
in Tin Shiu Wai
The Neighbourhood First reunion lunch will be on Saturday 2 February 2013. Over 400 tables in 18 districts will be hosted by youth members of NEIGHBOURHOOD Teams. In Tin Shiu Wai, the main venue, there will be 100 tables for 1,200 guests and the Guest of Honour will be Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary. At 21 HKFYG Youth S.P.O.Ts and some of our service units there will also be a celebration of the coming Chinese New Year. Unleashing Potential: Microsoft YouthSpark Grants for IT
at HKFYG's M21 Media Centre
M21, the HKFYG Media Centre in Aberdeen, has funding of HK$270,000 from Microsoft plus software from Microsoft YouthSpark Grants. These will enable M21 to organize a series of continuing IT education and IT employment training programmes involving Kinect applications. They will also offer experience in the production of video-clips. The project starts soon and runs till December 2013. Call 3979 0000 for more information or go to www.m21.hk.

Hong Kong FLL cum Jr.FLL Robotics Tournament on the Senior Solutions supported by Semia Ltd
and HK Polytechnic University
The 2012/13 Hong Kong FLL cum Jr.FLL Robotics Tournament is on 23 February at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The theme is Senior Solutions and over 500 participants from about 40 educational institutions will design and programme robots to complete tasks related to the daily life of senior citizens. Exchange teams from the mainland will also be there. Thanks to Semia Ltd and the Computing Department of the HK Polytechnic University for their long-term support. Learn and Leap - Teen's Action 2012 was a great success so HKFYG's Youth Employment Network is now launching the 2013 programme, designed mainly for Secondary 6 graduates. Putonghua Speech Competition for Youth S.P.O.Ts on UP Stage:
26-27 January at HKFYG Building
Ten of the HKFYG Youth S.P.O.Ts are organizing a Putonghua Speech Competition for children, called the UP Stage, from 26 January to 27 January 2013, at HKFYG's Theatre in the Federation's headquarters, North Point. This is the third event of the UP Series, following the UP Theatre, a performance by dancers in Youth Square last October, and the UP Gallery exhibition of paintings recently held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The aim of the series is to extend learning and UP Stage provides a platform for young participants to improve and practice their Putonghua. Online survey of young people's views of authority:
HKFYG Youth Study Series 47
The HKFYG Youth Research Centre has released details of research completed late last year on youth's views of authority. Data was gathered during an online survey of over 750 15-29 year-olds. Among those at work, the supervisor was naturally the primary authority figure, followed by parents, police officers, teachers and government officials. Credibility is the most important characteristic of those in authority, followed by communication skills, honesty, influence over others, and willingness to listen to advice. In 4 focus groups, 29 interviewees said they did not have negative attitudes towards authority in general but they considered personal conduct, considerateness and attitudes to others important, as well as high professional standards.
