Learn to Love - a sex education project supported by the Quality Education Fund
The Quality Education Fund has approved a sum of nearly $2m for a project called Learn to Love - Love and Sex Education in Schools, which will be organized by the HKFYG School Social Work Unit for 15 months, beginning in January 2013, in collaboration with 20 secondary and primary schools. Making Life Work: an alternative story of young drug abusers from HKFYG's Youth Crime Prevention Centre in Sai Kung
Making Life Work is an anti-drug platform sponsored by the Sai Kung District Office which served about 80 marginal youth this year. The aim was to help potential and current young drug abusers enhance their sense of self-worth and self-confidence with a series of activities such as adventure training, medical support, life skills education, volunteer and community participation, and living expenses subsidies. A Youth and Community Show for this year's scheme, called, Making Life Work: an Alternative Story of Young Drug Abusers, took place on Sunday 16 December 2012 at Sai Kung Waterfront Park. "Just Dream It!" Neighbourhood First Youth Concert 30 December
at Kwai Tsing Theatre Black Box Theatre
Twenty 16-22 year-olds from Tin Shui Wai will be singing or dancing on stage in Just Dream It! at the Kwai Tsing Theatre Black Box Theatre at the Neighbourhood First Youth Concert 2012, from 7.30-9.30pm on Sunday 30 December. Lead singers are Sunny Lai who wrote the theme song, Dream, and Yman. Tin Shui Youth S.P.O.T. has given great encouragement to Yman, whose long-term goal has been to become a singer at her own concert. Finally she got funding last May from "Love Ideas ♥ HK." Tickets at $20 are now on sale at Tin Shui Youth S.P.O.T., address: G/F, Shui Fung House, Tin Shui Estate, Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long, N.T. There will be free seating. Second Wudang trip supported by BOCG LIFE declared a great success
At the HKFYG Building on Sunday 9 December, 40 participants from 29 secondary schools reported on their 10-day trip to Wudang Mountain last August. While on the trip, they learned about Wudang Martial Arts and Daoist beliefs, sponsored by BOCG Life (Bank of China Group Life Assurance Co Ltd). Amongst their reflections were the need for serenity to help solve life's problems, and the perseverance needed to complete an intensive daily schedule with physical exercise, martial arts and cultural classes. BOCG Life will continue supporting participants of the programme who will serve the community by offering basic martial arts classes to children at HKFYG Youth S.P.O.Ts. Child Development Matching Fund arranges visit to Carol Singing Festival marathon finale sponsored by NWS Holdings Ltd and Kee Wah Bakery
The Child Development Matching Fund (CDMF) has invited 55 people, including Federation youth members and their families from Tin Shui Wai and Kwai Fong, to its Carol Singing Festival marathon finale on 22 December, from 11am to 6pm at the Open Piazza, Cultural Centre. Free transport is being provided for them by NWS Holdings Ltd, snacks and meals are being donated by Kee Wah Bakery and individual donors. The CDMF festival is raising funds to contribute to targeted savings by Child Development Fund participants with the aim is to combat intergenerational poverty. Celebrating partnership with Ocean Park graduation this month
HKFYG's Youth Employment Network will be holding a graduation ceremony on 14 December at Ocean Park for the Ocean Park Themepark Food and Beverage Trainee Programme. Youth Business Hong Kong products, services and seminars at World SME Expo with Hong Kong Trade Development Council
From 6-9 December HKFYG's Youth Business Hong Kong (YBHK), provided support to entrepreneurial youth at the World SME Expo organized by Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Up to 10,000 international visitors had the chance to discover 16+ young start-ups and their impressive array of products and services. About 400 people attended two YBHK seminars. The Step Out Award Scheme, co-organized by HKFYG's Youth Employment Network and Education First, encourages senior secondary students to plan their future careers. 5 lucky winners of the award will have flights and a 2-week sponsored study tour in Sydney next August. Full-time students in S4 and above who have not visited a foreign country in the past 3 years can apply. Two magazines on creativity: Youth Hong Kong and Youth SPOT magazine
Youth Hong Kong December 2012 explores the obstacles and avenues to high quality creativity with Richard Pontzious, Founder and Artistic Director of the Asian Youth Orchestra, who says we don't inspire young people to achieve excellent results. Meanwhile, Allan Zeman sends a message about maximizing their opportunities and Edmund Lee of the Hong Kong Design Centre advocates freedom of speech and expression as crucial for creativity. In this month's Youth SPOT magazine, young people talk about creative expression. For creativity to flourish they need platforms and opportunities - to speak, perform and interact.
