Youth Matters

Spring is here

When one imagines Hong Kong, the iconic skyline across Victoria Harbour always springs to mind. We often forget that three-quarters of our land is countryside. With Ching Ming and Easter, two holiday periods, just around the corner, this is the perfect time to promote environmental awareness and protection programmes, for tourists and local people alike.

Hiking and camping are affordable, easy ways to experience Hong Kong's magnificent surroundings, but we are not always careful enough with those beautiful natural resources. We need to understand that caring for the environment is something all of us can do, paying attention to fire danger warnings, especially with barbecues, joss sticks and cigarettes.

Taking litter home, not picking flowers or trampling vegetation are also very important. For the sake of those who enjoy the peace and serenity of nature, we must also avoid creating noise pollution with loud music. Hong Kong's greatest - and hidden - resource must be preserved for future generations. And there is no better time to go 'green' than now, when spring is in the air!
