Wong-Tsz-ho And Deputy Director Ms Yolanda Chiu
A big hand for outstanding volunteers
Two HKFYG young volunteers went on stage last Saturday to talk about their experience. Pun Fai-wong and Li Kwan-hung were both
once trouble makers but they have won multiple awards for helping others. 'Being involved in voluntary work empowers you to feel competent, confident and lovable,' says Fai-wong .

Fai-wong came from a violent, broken family, fell in with triads at secondary school and became an aggressive bully. Kwan-hung also treated school as a battle ground, but the social worker from HKFYG convinced them to help the elderly, the mentally challenged, troubled teens and dislocated new immigrants. Since then, both have become inspiring role models and Kwan-hung, who got only a single point in the HKCEE exams, found a job because of his voluntary work.

The two youngsters were speaking at the recent annual awards ceremony organized by the Social Welfare Department. At the same event, the Federation received recognition for its Youth Volunteer Network's 10,000 service hours in 2009. Wong-Tsz-ho was nominated by us for the 2011 Hong Kong Outstanding Youth Volunteer award, and three other young people associated with HKFYG also received the same award.
