Back to school
Heading back to school: HKFYG survey reveals anxiety
The long holidays are over and for
most students, going back to school has been a mixed experience. Although the majority have been thinking about new classes and new skills, about seeing old friends and making new ones, for a significant minority, anxiety and stress have made for pessimism rather than high spirits. A Federation survey released this week reveals why, and how they cope.

About 400 out of nearly 1200 students surveyed said they were nervous or feared the beginning of term. Their main worries were parents' and teachers' expectations, adapting to new ways of learning, and for nearly 40% of S4-S6 students the New Senior Secondary School curriculum (NSS) now being phased in, is a major concern.

The majority say they talk to friends about their problems but share their concerns with parents and teachers too. In times of high pressure good planning also helps keep everyone calm and safety valves are very important. HKFYG's Youthline 2777 8899 can act as a back-up for students in need.

For further details of the survey and the service, please contact Cecilia Ng, tel 2788 3433.
