HKFYG within the next few weeks. They are an exciting, streamlined version of the Federation's web-based services. Representing our latest endeavour to engage the maximum number of young people in open, online dialogue with the Federation and their peers, the goal is enhanced connectivity for us all.
uChannel is an online radio station, launched in late 2008 with new programmes coming up, giving youth the chance to speak for themselves on social issues and lifestyle
uCinema is coming soon, with online video options, training in multi-media, competitions, and opportunities for creative exposure
u21 is our community web service for youth members, about to take up an extended new role with greater interactivity and discussion groups
uPortal will be launched as the membership system website for our 270,000+ members
uServices will ensure that as we send out information, so online readers can contact us in return, with counseling and outreach as 2 of its core services

Forum on constitutional development with Chief Secretary, Henry Tang
|

There was a sharing session with the Chief Secretary, Henry Tang, on constitutional development at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre last Friday, 29 January. About 200 students who are participating in the leadership programme called HK200 were present.

Lunar New Year Bazaar with Shell Hong Kong
This successful programme has now been running for four years
|

as a cooperative effort with Shell (Hong Kong) Ltd. The bazaar opens on 8 February and a 'cheering walk' will take place the next day, with Matthew Cheung, Secretary for labour and Welfare, as Guest of Honour. At Olympian City on 31 January products to be sold at the bazaar were put on display and visitors voted for the most creative item. The winning team will receive HK$8,000 at a prize-giving on 28 February. The programme also appears on Facebook for the first time this year. Life Banking for schools and financial literacy survey with VISA
|
|
From March till April 2010, HKFYG's Youth Employment Network is collaborating with secondary schools on Life Banking for Youth workshops and seminars, supported with funding from VISA. The aim is to promote career planning and skills in financial management for 100 secondary pupils. The sessions will incorporate an explanation of VISA's "SMART Theory" of goal setting. VISA is also supporting a survey on financial literacy with total funding of US$15,000. Over 500 youth aged 10-24 will take part in the survey, the results of which are due in April. It will discover youth attitudes to spending, saving and consumption, their values concerning money and their perceived needs for financial literacy. Contact Angela 3755 7022 for more information.
Volunteers give warmth through action
As Chinese New Year approaches, VNET is delighted and grateful for all the gifts it has received from Heart to Heart companies and other organizations. These will go, via HKFYG Youth SPOTs, to help underprivileged elderly people. Nearly 700 youth volunteers will take the gifts and help senior citizens give their doorways a fresh lick of paint, lending an atmosphere of happiness and warmth for a prosperous and fruitful Year of the Tiger. On Saturday 6 Feb 2010 at the Broadway Cinematheque, an audience of 120 youth aged 14-25 will be watching the 2009 American drama, Precious directed by Lee Daniels. The show is courtesy of Edko Films and it's all about the problems of a dysfunctional American family and after the movie there will also be a discussion among the audience. Chance for underprivileged youth to experience Don Quixote at the Hong Kong Arts Festival
Deprived youth have the chance to see Don Quixote by The Mariinsky Ballet at this year, courtesy of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Free tickets are being made available to them through HKFYG for the performance on the afternoon of 21 March at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Contact Michelle, tel 23954796
