Well behaved children
Social skills for well-behaved, independent youth
The earlier a child acquires the
basic social skills of good behaviour and looking after him- or herself, the better, according to recent research*. In fact, spoiling kids, coddling them with special foods, feeding and tidying up after them, or just letting them do whatever they like, may impede their timely development as responsible young adults. Parents and schools can work together to train them, backing each other up to send a consistent message.

HKFYG's kindergartens do this from the outset, helping parents to see how important it is to bring children up to be independent early in life. At school, they are being taught by the age of 3 how to feed and clear up after themselves, both at the dining table and in the classroom. They learn how to share instead of being self-centred and this attitude can be a big bonus for themselves and everyone they come into contact with, in school and at home.
