A cappella is coming to town
The Jabberwocks from Brown University in the US, Klangbezirk from Germany, and both Takarabune and Kaichiro Kitamura from Japan,
are coming to town for the Federation's a cappella festival. Our special intention in this festival is to open up the world of vocal music to youth from all backgrounds and introduce them to young performers from around the world.

A cappella is multi-part, unaccompanied singing and includes barbershop, doo wop, jazz, rock and pop songs. The singing is very versatile and accessible, great fun for performers and audiences alike. Young people from all backgrounds can be motivated to participate and may even find they have hidden talent.
The Hong Kong Melody Makers
It's a great opportunity to enjoy and learn how much music can offer everyone, in harmony, beauty and inspiration.

HKFYG Youth Poll survey 180
red arrow
Just published
HKFYG Youth Research Centre Youth Poll Series 183: The Effects of the Global Financial Tsunami: Young people's views on careers and money.
One of the clearest findings of the survey was heightened awareness
of the overwhelming importance of keeping your job in troubled economic times. This awareness overrides even the comfort of having large savings. Indeed, quite a number (14.6%) said nothing can give them a sense of security. The most popular career category, was the banking and finance sector (10.8%) followed by the hotel, tourism and catering sector (8.1%). These results are rather surprising for recessionary times. They contrast with answers to a question on preferences for type of employment. 58.4% prefer to be paid employees and 40.1% prefer self-employment.

The survey was conducted from 17 February to 4 March 2009. 305 young people, aged 15-39 were interviewed. Call Sharon for more details, tel 3755 7039.
