Job Creation a Priority
As the effects of the financial crisis heighten, the Federation is launching the second phase of its strategic, practical response to youth unemployment. Both
university graduates and those with little experience on low incomes need work, now and throughout the slump. Job creation is essential and The HKFYG is glad that government has taken the lead.

The next step is to match young people with available jobs. This is where our Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign steps in. We appeal to employers to tell us about vacancies and internships. We also request that universities and schools tell students they can seek our guidance, call our employment hotline 27770309 and register on our database. Our pledge is to bridge the gap between youth who need work and employers who need workers, with caring, connectivity and commitment.

HKFYG Youth Poll survey 180: Youth's Views on proposed drug testing
306 young people aged 12-24 were polled from 24 November-15 December 2008. A large majority (71.4%) were in favour of introducing new legislation
that would require any people suspected of taking dangerous drugs to take a drugs test. A similar proportion (69.6%) thought all schools should practise school-based drug-testing schemes. 27.2% disagreed with proposed legislation, with most saying that schools had no right introduce such testing, or that they were unclear about the details of any such scheme. Respondents were divided about reporting friends to the police for taking drugs. 48.6% would, 47.0% would not. 34.4% said they would trust the decision of medical personnel when deciding whether a youngster should take a compulsory drug test.

Chinese press release on drugs survey at http://www.hkfyg.org.hk/ yrc/chinese/yr-p180c.html. Results were published 17 February 2009.
