Tormented by problems: how counselling helps
Disturbing news of young suicide or death, sometimes caused by debilitating anorexia or by chronic unhappiness and depression,
regularly appears in Hong Kong headlines. Surveys* have confirmed that as many as 20% of our students have considered killing themselves and that over a third of young people in Hong Kong are unhappy. Over 10% say they would resort to self-mutilation. Everyone is concerned but what can be done?

Youngsters face problems that often seem insurmountable. They need sympathetic advice, consolation and firm guidance. Family members and friends are often the first people they turn to but a professional counsellor with an objective perspective can give vital help. Online, in schools, on the phone and face to face, Federation staff provide this service. Get full details from the Youth Counselling Centre, email yc@hkfyg.org.hk, tel 2788 3433.

Your voice, your donation, in support of this work could save a young life. Call Bonnie, 3755 7100, to talk about it.
