Counting her savings

Saving for the future
Growing up and becoming an adult involves responsibility. It means looking after your own money and your own future. That means learning the purpose of
saving and knowing that money in the bank is more than just a cash investment. It is also an essential step towards independence.

Deprived youth from low income families need a head start in the process of taking on responsibilities like these and HKFYG is in strong support of initiatives to help them save. We are pioneering a scheme in New Territories West with backing from the government's Child Development Fund and funding from the Prudential Assurance Company. Matching grants will give motivation to the young savers and they will see their efforts multiplied.

HKFYG's Youth Poll on the 2008 Legislative Council election
Our latest youth poll on electoral behaviour revealed that over 50% of respondents aged 18-34 did not have a preferred candidate two days before the election. Over 70% thought Hong Kong had insufficient political talent, up on the last HKFYG poll on elections in 2006.
Other significant findings:
over 70% of all those polled were eligible voters
almost 88% of these said they would or probably would vote
the reason given by most was the wish to fulfil civic duty
Major considerations in choosing a legislator:
practicality
good communications with the public
honesty and incorruptibility
capacity for hard work
